GIRLS TAKE CHARGE OVERVIEW

What is Girls Take Charge?

Girls Take Charge is a leadership program for teen girls. The program is highly interactive, providing an opportunity for girls to express their thoughts and experiences.

The Girls Take Charge curriculum has been carefully designed after years of research, surveys, and facilitation to ensure it maximizes the opportunity to teach girls key life and leadership skills that matter.  It is a special set of workshops that all girls can benefit from.  Girls who attended past programs include sports captains, clubs and organization leaders as well as girls who have demonstrated the eagerness and motivation to lead but may have not yet had the opportunity.

Girls Take Charge is a national award winning program and was selected as only one of 90 programs out of 8,000 nominations for the prestigious Avon Hello Tomorrow Award for the work it is doing to inspire girls and build future leaders! GTC has also received support from organizations such as State Farm, Bank of America, AOL, Wells Fargo, and Lockheed Martin.

What will the week be like?

The award winning curriculum has been carefully designed by the expert team members of Learning to Lead a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.  The curriculum is specialized based on the participant’s grade so that they are learning age appropriate skills as well as being surrounded by girls who are their own age. Most importantly it is designed to be fun and interactive!

What are some of the key skills learned during the week?

Each participant will be assigned to one of three tracks based on her grade as of the Fall of 2010.  Each track includes a specifically designed curriculum for that age group.  In addition to these separate skill building sessions, all girls will have a chance to listen to daily speakers and participate in panel discussions.  All girls will also rotate through team building outdoor sessions.  working in teams, decision making, motivation and effective communication will be addressed. Please see more specifics below based on the participant’s age about skills addressed during track sessions.  The skills mentioned below will be included in age appropriate content and will vary based on the participants track.   For example, risk taking is presented to both Track I and Track II but the activity differs amongst these groups.
